: brrr :

It’s 3:30 in the afternoon, 19º with a wind chill that makes it feel like 6º, and at some point during the night the world froze solid. We’ve been glazed. Coated. Frosted.

Does anyone remember Doctor Zhivago? Well, today’s a page out of that book.

The weather geniuses had been predicting a snowfall of 1 to 3 inches of snow, so when I woke up this morning that’s what I expected to find. Snow. Stoopid, stoopid snow. But, no, there was no snow. Instead the world was encased in about an eighth of an inch of ice.

This was not a welcome surprise.

Simply defrosting my windshield required an ice scraper, a stiff brush, half a can of windshield de-icer, a defroster on high, and forty minutes. Just as challenging was getting the car door open, a task which required two people and ten minutes.

The worst part of all? This, my friends, is the heat of the day. It’ll only get colder from here. Tonight the temperature is supposed to drop to 12º, with winds of 15 mph. Needless to say, I won’t be leaving the house until May.

Please, send soup.

  3. Wow that really sounds bad. Here in South Africa people are complaining about it being too hot… if I could I would bottle some heat and send it to you.

    1. The heat is one thing I never complain about. No matter how hot it gets. But I’ll start whining about the cold the second the temperature drops below 80.

      1. yeah I also made a “rule” with myself that I refuse to complain about the heat. I complain about the cold all the time so, at some point something needs to be satisfactory.

  4. Yes – I second Never Contrary. I’ll send soup, if you would please send the sun. We’ve not seen the sun for over a week. Rumor has it that the sun may make an appearance on Thursday. We’ll see.
I empathize with you and the ice, though. GA rarely gets snow – we get ice. Ice is far more dangerous/treacherous than snow. Be careful, Lisa.

    1. The sun will be back, LD. It pulled its disappearing act up here last week, but showed up all shiny and refreshed today. So don’t despair.

  5. I want to walk through that picture. Someone should use that in a video game. Battle through a frozen mansion. I’m in.

    1. We had that weather system last week. It ended with the icy day yesterday. Today is sunny and bright, but it’s still too cold for anything to melt. So hang on, the sun’s coming …
