: why, yes, I do have a screw loose :

screwWho else but a wacko nutjob changes themes for the novelty of it?

I should have my head examined or electroshocked or shipped to Vienna. And soon. This theme changing stunt is textbook self-destructive behavior. I didn’t stop to consider consequences; I plunged in heedlessly like always. Fallout be damned. A word to the wise? Backup your data, my friends. I’m not done yet. The entire Internet could come crashing down.

Issues continue to plague me and my little theme here. Correction, themes, plural. I changed two — at the same damn time. And, surprise, they’re both wonky. I’m fretfully waiting for instructions from WordPress support, but honestly? I’d like to dust my hands and skip off to a nice, quiet rest home. Far, far away from digital connections.

Posts on publikworks have a wide black bar running vertically through the text and graphics these days. You can’t read a word. It looks censored, like I revealed classified, top-secret information. But the blackout only occurs on certain devices — tablets, mostly, some smartphones. Computer monitors appear to be exempt.

This has been a very distressing week, even the grocery store conspired against me. They’ve discontinued the butter cookies I can’t live without. Just stopped selling them. No notice, no warning. I’m using Oreo Thins are a stopgap, a temporary solution to carry me until I find another local supplier. My beloved Leibniz can’t be replaced.

I can. Which is why I’m begging for a little more time to correct the shambles I’ve made of this. I’ll go back to my trusty old theme in a flash if you want. Just say the word. You want me to? I will. I’m thi-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-s close. You know what? Why wait? I wanted new and spectacular, but got new and disastrous. So, here we go, my old theme with a new post you can actually read.

This could be short-term or it could be permanent. Don’t ask me. I don’t know what I’m thinking. Again, my apologies for the inconvenience. Turns out there’s never a good time for crazy.

  1. There is not a single thing wrong with this from my side of the screen. It is clean and organized. It is nice. What is wrong from your side of the screen? Is it something one of us can help with? Ask, maybe we can help.

    1. I’m back to the old one. It didn’t make sense to stay with a theme that blotted out all the content, so it’s back to the drawing board. Maybe. Thanks for the offer, though, that was very neighborly. And I appreciate it :o)

  2. I like you just the way you are. Isn’t there a song…”Don’t go changing…”?

    Probably before your time.

    1. Great song and nowhere near before my time. And I love Billy Joel. Remember ‘And So It Goes’? Oh, how I love that song :o)

  3. This theme looks nice. For me, this is the new theme, because I first came across your blog when you still had the other one.

    1. Aw, thanks, bun. I’m still looking, though. Maybe I’ll do a new theme every week. Or shoot myself in the foot. Same things, right?

      1. Well, I’m pretty new to blogging myself and have no knowledge of computers and things whatsoever. I’m super-impressed that you had the courage to even make the attempt!

        1. I’m pretty sure you’re mistaking courage for stoopidity. Had I known what this was leading to, I’d have run far and I’d have run fast. Like you I don’t know much about computers and coding and all that, so that made it easy. Heck, you’re the brave one. You knew what you were getting into when you started blogging and did it, anyway. That takes courage.

  4. I changed my theme a while back and things with the new one still bugs me at times. My links used to show up in colored text and underlined, like a good link should. Now they are in colored text, but not all that far from black, and without the underline. I guess I should be happy, since readers will be less likely to click the link and then never come back to finish reading my post.

    1. I’d just gotten to like the last one when it went all wonky. Now the old one seems weird and off-putting. Why is that? And when will I leave to leave well enough alone? Links still throw me, dave. It took four tries to restore the one link I have. Four. Life is so much harder for stoopid people, like myself.

  5. In the five years that i am blogging on WordPress, I changed my theme three times, all without incident, thankfully. I think it is good to change the theme now and then, to freshen up things. It’s like repainting your home.

    1. I’m right there with you. It’s been four years and I’m so ready for a change. The first theme I tried just didn’t work out. The last one has a “theme issue.” I think that’s code for we’re stumped. I couldn’t leave it the way it was, so it’s back to the old one. I can’t wait until everything is resolved, but fear it’s going to a be a while. Please bear with me.

  6. Yes, this is much better. I can at least read it. And I like the nice clean, unblackened look!

    1. phew. I can breathe again. I’m so sorry about that black box, really, really, terribly sorry. If it hadn’t been for you I never would’ve known about the problem. If they ever get it corrected, I might try again — unless I come to my senses first. Thank you for bringing it to my attention :o)

    1. I’ve been doing this for 4 years and I’m still totally clueless. Let’s stick together, we’ll keep each other company as we bumble our way along :o)
