: the new rules :

anarchy_destructedSorry, that should be singular, rule. There’s only one and that is: there are no rules. I’ve had it up to here with regulations and restrictions; I want nothing more to do with them. Therefore, the only accord I’ll actively seek is among the verbs, they have to agree. Or else.

This blip of a website won’t be a democracy or an autocracy. It will be pandemonium wrapped in a jamboree inside a funhouse — my dream come true. That was the point of launching the whirly girl, to shed the predictability and expectations of publikworks. My own as much as anyone’s. A number of things stayed the same: the ban on puns, minimal! exclamations, colons in the titles — and I haven’t changed. If anything I’m regressing.

See the bird in the header? That’s me, I found my wings. They were in the attic under old hats and doll clothes and high school yearbooks. The tornado is a graphic representation of the churning and whirling in my head or what I euphemistically call my thought process. Now you know the hidden meaning behind the logo, which may or may not change. The situation remains fluid.

paper tossBut the beauty part is, as the whirly girl I can’t fail, because there isn’t a goal. It’s very liberating, this aimlessness. I like it. If I wanted to, I could post tomorrow’s school lunch menu. Or the lyrics to Short People. Hey, you know what? Why not. The lyrics are hilarious and Randy Newman is worth quoting,  so:

Short People by Randy Newman

They got little baby legs
That stand so low
You got to pick ‘em up
Just to say hello
They got little cars
That go beep, beep, beep
They got little voices
Goin’ peep, peep, peep
They got grubby little fingers
And dirty little minds
They’re gonna get you every time
Well, I don’t want no Short People
Don’t want no Short People
Don’t want no Short People
‘Round here*

And there you have it. The motivation behind the launch, the symbolism of the logo, and the needless addition of mildly offensive (but truly funny) text. As Popeye says, though: ‘I yam what I yam and that’s all what I yam.’

Welcome to my one-girl rebellion.

Oh, and just for the record gravity sucks.

    1. There’s just no need for it; gravity does suck. And I don’t mean in the figurative sense.

  4. You go girl. I love that song. “Short people ain’t got nobody.” Glad I’m not short.

    1. Me, too. I’d like to be taller, though. Like 6’1″. And isn’t it a great song? I giggle like an idiot whenever I hear it. I loved ‘I Love LA’, too and it didn’t offend anyone.
